1) setting: The setting plays a vital role in film. Setting lets the audience understand things like who and where the clip is taking place. The setting also just gives the audience a chance to understand characters a bit more based off the setting of a scene.
2) décor: Décor is also a very important aspect in film. It Is used as symbols throughout videos to represent different things and also can represent the characters. 3) lighting: Lighting is very important in film. Lighting is what sets the mood for the scene. It also can make the audience feel differently based off what the lighting is. For example, if the lighting was all bright and sunny the audience and mood will be very happy. 4) depth of space: Depth of Space is another crucial thing in film. It is something that helps develop the scene and add more detail. It helps determine how far away or close up things are to each other. 5) costume and makeup: Costume and Makeup are one of the most important elements in a film. They are what helps bring the full film together. It is a way to make each character unique and stand out from one another. The producer is able to match a character’s costume and makeup to the character’s personality so the audience can understand the character’s personality more.

What significance does the continuing development of digital media technology have for media institutions and audiences?
The continuing development of digital media technology has greatly impacted both media institutions and audiences. To begin with, distributing films has become much easier and cheaper for businesses. Nowadays, businesses are able to distribute their films through social media sites and attract a larger audience for less money. The audience then also benefits from this because they are able to watch the film on demand or they can easily download the film and watch it anywhere at any time. This also is cheaper for the audience which can attract more people to purchase the film. Another way the development of digital media has significantly impacted media institutions is the production of films. With the advancements in technology and all of the available resources for producers, the film making process has sped up dramatically. For example, now directors are able to watch footage instantly after being filmed, instead of having to wait for it to go through many other steps. Audiences also benefit from this because the film will be released quicker which gives them the opportunity to watch the film sooner. Sometimes audiences have to wait as long as 2 years for a movie to be released but with these technological advancements this won’t happen as often anymore. The last way that media institutions and audiences are impacted from the continued development of media technology is the new inventions of technology. With all of these new ideas the producers are able to put them to use in their films, this attracts a larger audience and produces more money for the company. An example of this is 3D movies. 3D movies allow the audience to feel like they are in the movie and everything seems 10 times more realistic. This is something that not only the media institutions benefit from but also the audience does. They audience gets to experience new things that they never though they would be able to. Old: New: For my magazine I started fresh. I felt that my older magazine cover didn't fit in with my table of contents nor my double page spread. I chose this picture because it has a lot of brown in it and my other pages do as well. I added a barcode because that is something that all magazines need to have. I also added a price and the day my magazine was published. I changed up the fonts because I think they all flow and look better than the previous fonts I used on my other magazine cover.
Image on the right from foodfornet.com, image on the left from Photopea. For my double page spread I used Canva. This website allowed me to be very creative and use many special tools. I was able to change the font and letter size which gives these pages more detail and makes it look more presentable. I also inserted many pictures to give the audience a better idea of what each pastry looks like. I used boxes and different shapes to put text on, to make it stand out. For example, on page 29 in the brown box I wrote "try these NEW delicious vegan desserts!" I put this in this box to stand out to the audience so it would catch their attention.
How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online - in this project?
I integrated technologies in many ways. Software, hardware, and online technology all helped me develop my magazine. To begin with, software like Canva helped me design most of my double page spread. Canva is an easy software to work with that allows me to edit and design my magazine how I want to. I am able to change the placement, font size, and color of the text as well as move around pictures and text boxes to where I want on my magazine. Hardware devices that have helped me throughout this process was my iPhone and computer. I was able to use my phone to get pictures to put onto my magazine, I was able to use my laptop to make my magazine and edit it how I wanted it to be. Lastly, I used online sites like safari and other articles. In order to make my magazine I needed information on my topic and to get this information I used other articles from safari. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Explain research, using different applications, layout and design of your magazine or video.
My production skills have greatly developed throughout this project. On InDesign, which is where I made my magazine cover, I have learned how to do more things and apply what I’ve learned from my mistakes. For example, my first magazine colors didn’t flow and needed to be fixed so I was able to go back and fix what I did wrong to make my final product look better. I also have been able to get more comfortable with the website and the tools that are available. This allows me to add more detail and make my magazine be the best it can be. 1) One way an editor impacts the film is through physical film editing. This is an effective way to make the film flow and allow the film to be cut in certain areas that need to be fixed. There are many types of physical editing such as linear editing, destructive editing, and non-linear editing. All of these types are important in making the final product be the best it can be.
2) Another way an editor impacts the film if figuring out which editing systems work the best for the film when taking into consideration the budget, workflow, and ease of use. Editors commonly use editing systems such as Avid Media composer, Apples final cut pro, and Adobe premiere. It is important for editors to make sure they pay attention to all the little and big details when editing and fixing films, so they don’t miss anything. 3) The last way editors impact a film is by having the ability to shift the films perspective. Since the editor can determine when and for long the camera remains on a specific character it impacts the audiences view on each actor and their experience. The editor takes into consideration what character they feel should be shown in that scene and will make requests for the film to the producer if he/she feels something can be changed. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages with audiences by offering the most delicious and simple homemade desserts with the audience’s lifestyle and interests taken into consideration. When making my magazine cover, I inserted a picture of a food that is commonly enjoyed attempting to grab many people’s attention. Although I did target some specific social groups overall this magazine is meant for people with all different types of passions. For example, people with busy lives, strict diets, and even people who enjoy trying new things can all enjoy this magazine and find something that satisfies their interests. I included multiple coverlines explaining some of the things that my magazine includes, which allows these certain audiences to be interested in my magazine and want to look further into it. I can also engage with audiences through putting my product on social media. This can allow the product to be viewed by many different age groups and a multitude of people with different interests. My product would be distributed as a real media text in many different ways. The first way I can distribute my product would be at shops. This a very effective way because most people will notice the magazine and can possibly be interested in purchasing it. Since my magazine is a dessert magazine it would be the most effective to distribute mine to supermarkets and grocery stores. This is because there is a higher chance someone would be interested purchasing a food magazine at a location where food is sold rather than where something else that isn’t related to food is sold. Another effective way to distribute my magazine would be online. There are many ways to distribute a magazine online, but the most effective way would be through social media. This is because there is a wide variety of people with different interests and ages. Specifically Facebook can be a great way because my magazine targets a more older audience and Facebook contains that, this is a very easy way to do this because such a large amount of people have social media which can allow more people to purchase my product. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My magazine cover challenges conventions in many different ways. To begin with I made each little piece of information included on the magazine cover a different color. I used brighter and more vibrant colors because the background was dark so I knew it would pop. I did this to make each detail stand out and grab the audience’s attention. Another way I used conventions was by making the more significant words catch the eye of the audience, by making those words a larger or different font than the rest of the words in that sentence. For example, I stated there were “15 new dessert ideas”. I made the 15 a larger font so the audience would notice that first and become interested, I also made the sentence a pastel pink because I know that color will grasp the audience’s attention. I also centered the photo on the cover to make the ice cream one of the first things the audience notices when they look at the magazine. My magazine represents certain social groups or issues by providing desserts for everyone’s cravings. On my magazine cover I mentioned how there is “a little something for everyone”. This sends a across a message implying there will be a wide range of tasty desserts for everyone’s likings. I also included another cover line mentioning that there are “10 delicious vegan desserts”. This targets people who cannot eat specific foods, this is a very effective way to grab the audience’s attention because it targets certain people with strict diets. Vegans would especially be pulled towards this magazine because it’s not as common to find magazines that would include recipes to satisfy their diet. On another cover line l mentioned that there are “easy 5-minute homemade desserts”. This mainly applies to the social group that doesn’t have much free time throughout the day. These easy desserts can help those people still provide themselves and others with flavorful sweets, despite their busy lives. There are many different types of media used all around the world. All though this can be something very beneficial it can also cause disagreements and arguments, which can lead to many problems. To begin with the ownership and funding of media is mainly controlled by the larger medias (media giants) which dominates over the smaller medias and decides what the audience views.
The major organizations are the ones that power over the smaller medias that are managed by the bigger medias. There are many bigger organizations, some of them consist of Disney, Amazon, Sachs, and CBS. These giants decide how and when the movie is show as well as elimination competition from the market. Since these giants eliminate competition it restricts diversity and limits the amounts of choices for the audience. This also then allows other poor quality and oriented sequels to be shown. For example, Working Title, A British production company, joined with Universal Studios in the late 1990’s. They produced the box office hit Four Weddings and a Funeral, they were very successful, this led the contract to being signed for longer which weakened the films creativity and caused the film to lose attraction. Other than movies being an issue raised by media ownership, marketing of a product in certain audiences can also be an issue. There are many ways for companies to advertise their products, ways to advertise can be on social media, on the television or even on the radio. To do these things it cost money and depending on where and when you advertise is can be very costly. Smaller companies may not be able to afford that, and this can lead to those companies quickly going out of business and losing customers. A way for those little companies to stay in business can be getting help from their media giants and possibly borrowing money or asking them to advertise their product. Lastly, another issue raised by media ownership is the news and the way the stations present it. The news is something people watch every day; it is something that people rely on to get updates on events going around the world. With the bigger organizations containing all the power it leads to problems such as bias being used. Some news stations like CNN like to have their own opinions when they are showing the news, they will display it in a way they believe the event is happening or a way they would like it to happen. It appears to happen the most politicly and with the way it is viewed. |
