1) How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? My magazine cover challenges conventions in many different ways. To begin with I made each little piece of information included on the magazine cover a different color. I used brighter and more vibrant colors because the background was dark so I knew it would pop. I did this to make each detail stand out and grab the audience’s attention. Another way I used conventions was by making the more significant words catch the eye of the audience, by making those words a larger or different font than the rest of the words in that sentence. For example, I stated there were “15 new dessert ideas”. I made the 15 a larger font so the audience would notice that first and become interested, I also made the sentence a pastel pink because I know that color will grasp the audience’s attention. I also centered the photo on the cover to make the ice cream one of the first things the audience notices when they look at the magazine. My magazine represents certain social groups or issues by providing desserts for everyone’s cravings. On my magazine cover I mentioned how there is “a little something for everyone”. This sends a across a message implying there will be a wide range of tasty desserts for everyone’s likings. I also included another cover line mentioning that there are “10 delicious vegan desserts”. This targets people who cannot eat specific foods, this is a very effective way to grab the audience’s attention because it targets certain people with strict diets. Vegans would especially be pulled towards this magazine because it’s not as common to find magazines that would include recipes to satisfy their diet. On another cover line l mentioned that there are “easy 5-minute homemade desserts”. This mainly applies to the social group that doesn’t have much free time throughout the day. These easy desserts can help those people still provide themselves and others with flavorful sweets, despite their busy lives. 2) How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product engages with audiences by offering the most delicious and simple homemade desserts with the audience’s lifestyle and interests taken into consideration. When making my magazine cover, I inserted a picture of a food that is commonly enjoyed attempting to grab many people’s attention. Although I did target some specific social groups overall this magazine is meant for people with all different types of passions. For example, people with busy lives, strict diets, and even people who enjoy trying new things can all enjoy this magazine and find something that satisfies their interests. I included multiple coverlines explaining some of the things that my magazine includes, which allows these certain audiences to be interested in my magazine and want to look further into it. I can also engage with audiences through putting my product on social media. This can allow the product to be viewed by many different age groups and a multitude of people with different interests. My product would be distributed as a real media text in many different ways. The first way I can distribute my product would be at shops. This a very effective way because most people will notice the magazine and can possibly be interested in purchasing it. Since my magazine is a dessert magazine it would be the most effective to distribute mine to supermarkets and grocery stores. This is because there is a higher chance someone would be interested purchasing a food magazine at a location where food is sold rather than where something else that isn’t related to food is sold. Another effective way to distribute my magazine would be online. There are many ways to distribute a magazine online, but the most effective way would be through social media. This is because there is a wide variety of people with different interests and ages. Specifically, Facebook can be a great way because my magazine targets a older audience and Facebook contains that, this is a very easy way to do this because such a large amount of people have social media which can allow more people to purchase my product To access critical reflection questions 3 click the file below.
3) How did your production skills develop throughout this project? My production skills have greatly developed throughout this project. On InDesign, which is where I made my magazine cover, I have learned how to do more things and apply what I’ve learned from my mistakes. For example, my first magazine colors didn’t flow and needed to be fixed so I was able to go back and fix what I did wrong to make my final product look better. I also have been able to get more comfortable with the website and the tools that are available. This allows me to add more detail and make my magazine be the best it can be. 4) How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? I integrated technologies in many ways. Software, hardware, and online technology all helped me develop my magazine. To begin with, software like Canva helped me design most of my double page spread. Canva is an easy software to work with that allows me to edit and design my magazine how I want to. I can change the placement, font size, and color of the text as well as move around pictures and text boxes to where I want on my magazine. Hardware devices that have helped me throughout this process was my iPhone and computer. I was able to use my phone to get pictures to put onto my magazine, I was able to use my laptop to make my magazine and edit it how I wanted it to be. Lastly, I used online sites like safari and other articles. In order to make my magazine I needed information on my topic and to get this information I used other articles from safari.

YouTube is used for many things, one being to show historical videos. There are many YouTube channels like HBO that post old videos with snippets of current events. YouTube it a place to upload edited videos and shows them to other people on the same platform. This is what makes YouTube a cultural archive because so many of its users use this platform for historic content as well as present content. But now YouTube is slowly evolving to a public archive instead.
YouTube has affected the public organizations such as museums and libraries. Society has been questioning what role these things have played in their community and if they are still at the top. Now that YouTube Is more concentrated on the people’s archived, these other institutions should collaborate with YouTube. When doing this they will come across many ups and downs such as deciding the accountability for certain things. As an archive, YouTube comes with many responsibilities such as arranging and storing this archive as a public good. YouTube is a social media that has just recently been globalized all over the world. Places like Spain, China, Taiwan, and France all started using YouTube around 2008. YouTube made it possible for users to select the country that they want to view and select whatever language they want to watch videos in. As time progressed and YouTube was being used all around the world, it would automatically show content filtered for your location and show small initials of your country in the top right corner of the page, to show what place you were watching the content under.
This technique came with many issues. Many countries complained they weren’t included in the program. Some countries had to select a random location and not their own because theirs wasn’t offered as one of the choices. Many users complained about YouTube being localized because topics like politics require not only a local standpoint but a global view to understand the whole story and not just what your area sees. Localization also provides the ability to filter videos and decide what should be shown to who which has become a big challenge for this platform. YouTube as greatly impacted cultural politics. YouTube is an extremely diverse platform and is available for access to anyone in the world. This includes all religions, races, and ethnic groups. YouTube can also show many social groups such as LGBTQ+ to include everyone no matter who they are. Although this brings everyone together as one, the authors argue that since anyone can post content it is primary to YouTube’s brand.
Cultural citizenship gives the opportunity for small, less known, groups to show off themselves and have their own platform. YouTube makes everyone feel included and doesn’t stop anyone from posting just because their different. YouTube is a place for anyone to express their opinion and share it to the world. This social media is something that gathers people from everywhere around the world and gives them a voice to speak on their different backgrounds and beliefs.
The video talked about how social media shapes people’s identity and gave examples of how this happens. The lady speaking, Schultze, explained how when people’s identities are shaped and changed most of the time, they don’t even realize it. She talked about how social media can make someone feel forced to fit in with the rest of people and this is only one of many ways of how someone’s identity can be shaped. Another thing that was mentioned is how social media has “bubbles”, an example of this that was given in the video, was with marketing, and if you are labeled an entrepreneur that is what people know you as, not who you actually are.
Social media has definitely impacted me in many ways. To begin with, social media that teenagers use, such as Instagram or tik tok there are always “trends”. Trends are what people find interesting or think is “in style”, they can last a week or a month. Most people, including myself, will change their content and what they post to align with the trends in order to get more likes and views. This influences what I do and how I may act on social media. Another example is my view on things. On social media there are always rumors and news that is being posted, based off what I see, it can change my view on the topic and what I may believe. I strongly agree that social media does shape identity. I agree with this because I have experienced it myself and I have also seen other people change. With today’s society it’s all about being famous and getting a lot of likes because people think it’s “cool”. This results in people changing the way they act, dress, do things, etc. to be trendy. Also, the “bubbles” on social media really impact the way that others may view someone and change the way someone acts so they fit into that “bubble”. The article “How the news changes the way we think and behave” talks about how the news on tv, social media, and even on websites can affect the way people view different topics and even possibly affect their mental health. The article explains how the news may change little details about what they are talking about to make it sound better or worse depending on their beliefs on that topic. The article also then explained how it can affect people’s mental health and increase the chance of someone possibly having anxiety or even depression. The article then went more into detail and explained certain situations and how people have been affected by the way the news twists these topics and makes them not accurate like they should be.
I strongly agree that the news does change the way we think and behave. I believe this for many reasons, one being that news channels like FOX change and reword the news to make It align with their beliefs that way their viewers only believe that. This has an effect on the audience because they can be believing the wrong things. If the things the audience is viewing are very harsh and brutal this can create a sorrowful feeling for them and affect their mental health. For example, with politics FOX has their own specific beliefs and will make the news that they are talking about go along the lines with what they believe should be happening around the world. For my table of contents I felt there were a few things that could have been changed. I started with the little details such as the design on the bottom and the title " table of contents". The design on the bottom was changed and now matches the rest of the page better as well as makes it look better. I also centered the title and added a shadow effect to the words " table of". Something else that I changed were the images that were inserted. I changed two of the images because these images represent my magazine better and give a better representation of what will be in it.
Discuss the ways in which the candidates’(this is you) own experiences of media consumption (how you use, access, and produce) illustrate wider patterns and trends in audience behaviour.
There are many ways in which I am able to consume media and illustrate wider patters and trends in audience behavior. To begin with, in my magazine (print) i was able to use different editing tools such as websites to make my magazine the way I wanted to. This just shows one way I am able to edit any type of film and design it to look the best it can be. There are also many ways to distribute film but for my magazine I can use social media, a website, etc. This makes it easier on not only the audience but the seller as well. It Is easy access and very simple to view and purchase. This just goes to show the many different ways that someone can distribute their film throughout all different types of medias. |
